Green Coat with Brass Buttons.
Over the weekend, I was invited to spend a casual afternoon sketching with a few artists (you know, real artists, as in people who make a living doing this art thing). Of course, I was a ball of nerves and totally choked. I just couldn’t shake my general unease. Still, I learned a lot from the experience, like not worrying about what other people might think (because no one cares) and just doing your own thing. Baby steps, I guess.
Anyway, I spent this evening mired in self-redemption, drawing what I feel most comfortable drawing, and that’s girls wearing pretty things. I prefer autumnal fashion (who doesn’t) as it allows for textural and color contrast without the general bulk of winter-wear. People tend to look like wooly burritos in winter in most places that aren’t L.A. or Hawaii or the desert. You know, for a girl who prefers tomboy fashion and gait (yeah, really), I sure am obsessed with drawing girls wearing pretty things. Grass is greener and all that, perhaps.
[Edit: I just noticed that, if you look at the lapels of her coat just so, it looks like the Wu-Tang insignia, ha.]

Little Stevie Winwood.
Been trying to draw Steve Winwood ca. 1965, but it’s been pretty difficult.
